Testing the Sawzall

Imagine driving to the hospital to deliver a baby, being sent to another hospital with complications*, going under anesthesia, and waking up with this realization:

“[I] woke up from surgery and I had no arms and no legs. No one told me anything. My arms and legs were just gone.”

That’s right … Claudia Mejia of Sanford, Florida experienced that very thing. And the hospital won’t explain why they amputated her limbs unless if she sues them.

What a crazy world.

that is insane. You would think they would tell the mother then treat the baby for any type of infection. How hard would it have been to tell the mother she was going to need surgery before they amputaated. Man I would be so ticked off if something like that ever happened to me..

Yeah, me too. Waking up as an amputee … and finding out that I had just had a baby too. Too much!

IMO, the article is deceptively written to make it seem more dramatic. (not that this situation need any more drama added!)

The article sneaks this bit in:

Twelve days after giving birth at Orlando Regional South Seminole hospital, she was transported to Orlando Regional Medical Center where she became a quadruple amputee.

According to that, it was almost two weeks after giving birth that she had her limbs amputated. The author of the article crafts it to make it seem as if she went in to have a baby and when she woke up she had undergone amputation surgery. That does not seem to be accurate.

Woah … good eye, Steve. I (obviously) didn’t notice that, thus adding to the deception with my own writing. I’ll fix that …

This post’s a bit stale, I know, but I just wanted to add:

MRSA always takes a long time to appear. Twelve days elapsed from infection to emergency is consistent with the theory that she was infected at the hospital.
