Some are guilty, all are responsible.

webeldotnet: Some are guilty, all are responsible.

“In regard to cruelties committed in the name of a free society, some are guilty, while all are responsible.”

Abraham Joshua Heschel

I totally agree. While there are always culprits and criminals, advantaged and elite, antagonists and oppressors … I am, in the end, responsible for the actions that are taken in my society. I cannot completely disavow all knowledge, claim that I have no connection, or feign helplessness … I must step up and take action.

For I am responsible.

Here’s another quote in the same vein:

He who passively accepts evil is as much involved in it as he who helps to perpetrate it. He who accepts evil without protesting against it is really cooperating with it.
    -Martin Luther King Jr.

    I agree. Good stuff.

Whoa…. Martin Luther King Jr., one of the all-time greatest idols of terrorist pacifying Democrats, said that????

I don’t completely understand what you mean by that HP.
Although I suppose that one (of the many) problems with any false idol is not having a comprehensive enough understanding of them. .
Anything can see true and right if you don’t look at it to closely…

I totally agree with the MLK quote. He is promoting protesting against evil. Unlike some who would confer the rights of US citizens (trial in civil court vs. military tribunals) on terrorists and enemy combatants. Its just funny (to me) that the quote comes from a person who is always put on a pedestal by the very same people who are too wimpy to go after the clearest “evil” at work in the world today (terrorist murderers). The very same sort of people who also think that the death penalty (an injection while you are asleep) is “cruel and unusual punishment” and not “proportional” to the crime of RAPING A CHILD. (Not that raping a child is cruel or unusual, or evil, mind you.)

Yes I am. I am fully subscribed and regularly drink my Kool-Aid. (The cherry flavor is the best, IMO.)

Good. You take the responsibility, I’ll take the money. It feels good to be guilt free. Thank you.
