I don’t really like it when people call me a “photographer”.

Depends on your dictionary. Some dictionaries say that photography requires film. Others say that the image can be captured on any medium, including electronically. If the former, you are probably not a photographer. If the latter, you is.
Easier in China. You take picture, police don’t like, you not photographer. Just artist who vanishes.
Tomato / tomatoe. Specify your dictionary. “Standards are wonderful because there are so many of them.”
I’d say you could definitely have a run at making a career of it; but we’ve talked about this, so I know where you’re coming from.
I say a photographer is someone who has a passion to make photography his life, and to artfully, conceptually and technically execute that passion. Far too many people call themselves a photographer, and they simply aren’t (they may have a camera and technically understand how to take pictures, but that doesn’t make you a photographer any more than being able to read the Bible and understand what it says makes me a Pastor); I think true photographer has 1) passion, 2) eye for getting a shot someone else hasn’t gotten, 3) understanding of things that aren’t technical (balance, color, lighting, framing, etc - which involves training, education and talent).

So when I grow up to be a photographer and someone acts me who my favorite photographer is, I’m not allowed to say Lance Webel?

According to Webster, a photographer is “a person who takes photographs.” Do you take photographs?

No.

Lance, get over it……
You are one.
