Failure
My hard drive failed last week … I hadn’t yet gotten to the point of installing OS 10.5 (and hence, Time Machine) … but luckily I had backed up all of my documents a couple of weeks ago, so I wasn’t really worried about it.
Until now, that is … I just got the machine back with a brand new drive, completely void of my applications and settings and bookmarks and everything. It’s gonna be a pain to get all of that set up how I want to. Even worse, however, is the fact that I just realized that I never finished uploading a couple thousand photos from my year in China to Flickr.
Oh, man. I really hope I backed those up somewhere … ![]()

Oh man! I really hope you backed them up somewhere too!
It’s one of my worst fears (within the realm of superficial things to be fearful of…) to lose all of my photos. That is partially why I have a minimum of three copies locally and I put my better ones online (Flickr) for an off-site back up. and just to make me seem even more paranoid, while in the states last year, I purchased an external HD, put my entire iPhoto library on there and then left it at my inlaws house… that way in a worse case scenario, I can at least go back to what I had up to ‘08.

Yikes! This is why we just ordered Time Capsule. We both have stuff that we would like permanently saved…

I’ve had Time Machine running effortlessly in the background for quite some time, backing stuff up to an external HD. I’m just assuming its doing its job…

Yeah, I should’ve. For a long time, I couldn’t install OS 10.5 because my optical drive wasn’t working. But I had the drive fixed about a month ago, I’ve just been too busy to upgrade my OS this month. Guess I should’ve made that a priority.
Though, I must say, it’s kinda nice to start over, in a way. And in a week or so, my new loaded MacBook Pro should arrive at school …

I feel for you man, I blew my hard drive awhile back and it had all my school reports on it. Luckily I had them on my flashdrive. Hope you still have your pictures!
