Chinese is a tonal language, no? Maybe you should break that into syllables and indicate the emphasis. If she said “yoo NUK” I would agree with you that she was saying “unique” in a unique way. If she said “YOO nuk”, I’m trying to wrap my mind around the new lesson you will have to prepare: “Students, today we will learn a new word : eunuch.”
Just had a sudden thought : you are not familiar with horses, are you? A “unique” is a stallion that is missing just one (half-gelded, singular — an archaic term, but still in use).
You would for sure not be a eunuch if you posted that lesson plan!
