High and dry
There are no clothes dryers in China … as a result, drying clohtes in the damp winter air is nearly impossible.
So I rigged up this intricate clothes-drying system involving a fan, improvised clothesline, two chairs, ironing board, and a rotating space heater.
It worked great for about a month, until the clothesline snapped. Then I decided to try something new … I emptied out a closet and put my space heater in there with the wet clothes (like a mini sauna).
Sure, it might be a terrible fire hazard, but it works like a charm!

Lance… we have a dryer!!! They are available all around Hunan! - If you want to spend the money! If you buy one you can sell it to me when you leave and then I will have two and dry clothes double time! When you don’t use anything to help dry your clothes in this weather they will get moldy before they actually dry! YUCK! Sounds like you have a good system!

Lance, I think it’s alright just so long as you don’t, you know, leave the apartment with the dryer on…

Hey, we don’t have a dryer either so your system looks appealing….but, wait, there are no closets in Germany either! Oh well, practicing thankfulness that at least we have a washing machine!

Most of the clothes that I brought are non-cotton … either heavy-duty camping stuff or quick-dry athletic stuff. So I really don’t have any problems getting most of my clothes dry overnight or in one afternoon.
Oh, and Will … I’ve already set two towels on fire with that spaceheater. One actually went up in a huge ball of flame and I burnt half of my arm hairs putting it out!
