Shortly after crossing the Chinese border into Laos in February 2007, we found ourselves stranded in a wall-less hut that they called a “bus station” for a couple of hours. We eventually took the next bus to Luang Nam Tha, the tiny capital of the province with the same name (see the set or slideshow).

In general, Laos was a subtly beautiful land of rolling hills, hidden mountains, and smiling faces. The people were so incredibly nice … you could just show up in a village and be invited into homes to visit, eat, or sleep. In most places, it was very undeveloped and raw … and people were content to simply move at a slower pace than the rest of the world, unconcerned about money or “progress”.

Quite refreshing, I’d say!
