Whether having fun or wasting time, we all love them!

Falling Hillary

April 17th, 2008

Call it mean, call it inappropriate, call it whatever you want … but there’s just something about Falling Hillary that keeps me coming back for more.

Maybe it’s the physics … I find it to be quite mesmerizing. I think I could sit and stare at that rag doll for hours …

[hint: when she gets stuck, use your mouse to free her.]

Riddle of the Day

March 30th, 2008

Around 90 per cent of the world’s population is right-handed, and it is easier for right-handers to button shirts from the right. So why do women’s garments button from the left while men’s clohtes button from the right? Is it some sort of subtle sexism?

There actually is an answer … can you figure it out without looking it up?

Arial or Helvetica?

March 5th, 2008

I’m a font geek. I’ll notice it right away in any given product or design, I can easily weed through typefaces for an hour searching for the perfect look, and I have unreasonably strong emotional responses to certain font choices.

One particular font, Helvetica, has quite a fascinating history. It’s been around since 1957, is used almost everywhere, and even had a recent feature-length independent film released about it. But there’s controversy too … when Microsoft saw that they liked Helvetica but were too cheap to pay royalties, they decided to make their own version and call it Arial.

Here’s a game tests your ability to see the subtle differences between the two fonts (hint: Helvetica looks better). I got nine out of ten right … the one that really threw me off was the all-caps APPLE.

How about you … how well did you do?

Too busy to make a Jack-o-lantern this year? Never fear, the digital equivalent is here!

Warbears

October 13th, 2007

Ok … I’ve got a great new way to waste invest an hour or two of your time. It’s called Warbears. And it’s totally tubular.

In short, you control a group of four adorably violent little bears with useful and quirky talents. They’re trying to foil a bank robbery … and you’ve got to figure out exactly how to get into the bank, beat the bad guys, rescue the hostages, and stop the robbery. It’s a game of discovery, so don’t be too frustrated at first as you stumble through it … eventually it’ll all come together.

So what are you waiting for? Go “bring war to enemies of peace”!

Riddle of the Day

September 4th, 2007

Rearrange the letters of the word CHARADES to form two words that are synonyms. First one to answer correctly gets a virtual pat on the back!

Feed The Head

September 1st, 2007

Feed The Head is one of the most addicting, interesting, and entertaining games I’ve ever played.

How does it work? Just explore!

Intelligence Test

August 2nd, 2007

I’m not sure how scientific this Intelligence Test is, but it sure was fun. All you have to do is look at the numbers and figure out what each letter abbreviation means.

After about thirty minutes of brain-wringing, I managed to get 30 out of 33 right. Even though I couldn’t figure out #30, #31, and #33, I’m happy … maybe my English abilities haven’t suffered as much as I thought from a year overseas!

How did you do?

Spot the Smile

June 17th, 2007

Think you’re good at discerning if someone is being real or not when they smile? Then you should try this BBC test.

During the test, you’ll see a series of 20 videos of people smiling. You’ll then be asked to guess if each one is genuine or not. It takes about ten minutes to complete.

Sounds easy, right? It’s actually surprisingly difficult … I only got nine of them right (lame-o). I’m not sure exactly why … but my answers were much more accurate at the beginning. I think that after a while, I just started guessing.

Can you do better?

Escapa!

May 29th, 2007

This game, called, Escapa!, is about as simple as it gets.

All you have to do is drag the red square around the screen, avoiding the black walls and moving blue rectangles. After a while, everything starts to speed up, forcing you to think ahead and use your instincts to “survive”.

I lasted for 18.04 seconds … can you do any better?

The Missle Game 3D

May 20th, 2007

Here’s a new game for you called The Missle Game 3D. The concept is simple … you’re controlling a missle that’s flying through a tunnel, and you have to navigate through moving barriers and walls using your mouse.

It’s one of those games that’s really simple and potentially addicting … and the more you play it, the better you’ll get. Well, maybe you, but not me … the farthest I can seem to get it 80% of the way through Level 1.

I guess I’m no Skywalker!

Roboclaw

April 18th, 2007

Roboclaw is a simple flash game where you try to drop a ball into a hole using a robotic arm. The first couple of levels are deceptively easy, but once things start moving around, it can become really hard to control what you’re doing.

On my first attempt, I made it to level 17. On the second try, I got to level 22 and finished with a score of 1149. Can you top that?

Dicewars

April 9th, 2007

Dicewars is one of the most addictive games I’ve ever played.

It’s a lot like Risk, but much simpler and faster to play. After choosing how many players and which board to use, you simply attack neighboring countries by rolling the dice against them. If you win, you get more dice.

But it’s pretty hard … I played about ten games before I finally won one!

Super Mario Brothers Online

April 6th, 2007

Sure, the new Paper Mario looks pretty sweet. But I like the old school glory days of Nintendo.

If you do too, you should check this out. It’s the full version of Super Mario Brothers, online … and although it’s not quite the same to play with a computer keyboard, it’s still fun!

Five Minutes To Kill (Yourself)

March 30th, 2007

I just found a hilarious new game called Five Minutes To Kill (Yourself). If you don’t like inane office violence, don’t play it. If you do, try to beat my score (2:03)!
